Why Your Funnel Isn't Converting (And What Actually Works)

I've been thinking about why most founders feel stuck - and I realised something critical:

You're optimising the wrong thing.

Most marketing advice focuses on tactics: better click-through rates, cheaper leads, more bookings. But those are just numbers behind the machine, they're not the machine itself.

The machine is something deeper.

What Actually Makes People Buy

After scaling to $500k in 8 months (starting with zero audience), I've realized that sales don't come from perfect funnels or clever ads.

They come from belief installation.

Think about it: When someone buys from you, they're not buying because your landing page is beautiful or your ad copy is witty.

They're buying because they've come to believe three things:

1. Their current path doesn't work
The way they're trying to solve their problem right now, whether it's grinding on content, running expensive ads, or doing cold outreach, isn't going to get them where they want to go.

2. There's a better way
You've shown them a new approach that makes sense. It's not just different, it's easier, faster, and more reliable than what they're currently doing.

3. Your solution delivers that better way
Your program, product, or service is the logical vehicle for implementing this new approach.

When someone believes all three? The sale becomes inevitable.

Why Most Funnels Fail

Most founders skip straight to selling their product.

"Here's my program. Here's the guarantee. Here's why you should trust me."

But prospects aren't ready for that yet.

They're still stuck believing the old way will work if they just try harder. Or they don't know a better way exists. Or they're skeptical that anything will work.

So when you pitch your offer, you're fighting an uphill battle against their existing beliefs.

The Better Approach

Instead of starting with your product, start with belief shifts:

First: Validate what they already suspect
"Yeah, I agree, posting content every day and hoping the algorithm favours you is exhausting. And even when it works, it doesn't scale predictably."

Second: Introduce the new way
"What if instead of building trust from scratch with every prospect, you positioned yourself in front of audiences that already trust someone else? When they introduce you, their trust transfers to you instantly."

Third: Show how your solution delivers it
"That's exactly what I help clients build, a system for positioning yourself strategically, multiplying your content with AI, and converting borrowed trust into predictable revenue."

Now the sale isn't a pitch. It's the logical next step.

What This Looks Like in Practice

When I left my corporate role, I could have spent two years grinding on content, slowly building an audience from zero.

Instead, I asked: "Who already has my ideal audience's attention, and how can I position myself so they want to introduce me?"

That shift in thinking changed everything.

Within 8 months:

  • $500k revenue

  • 50+ qualified leads every month

  • Working from the Alps, Dubai, London, Sri Lanka and the French Riviera

  • A business that attracts people who want to have a business that gives them enough time to go out on adventures and meet new and interesting people (at least thats the freedom I’m in this for!)

Not because I had better tactics. Because I had better beliefs, both in how I approached growth and in what I helped prospects believe.

Your Exercise for This Week

Draw a simple funnel diagram and ask yourself:

  1. What does my market currently believe? (About their problem and how to solve it)

  2. What do I need them to believe instead? (The "new way" that makes my solution obvious)

  3. How am I walking them through that belief shift? (In my content, ads, emails, and sales calls)

If you can't answer those three questions clearly, you're probably focusing on tactics (cheaper ads, better landing pages) when you should be focusing on beliefs.

The Bottom Line

Numbers matter. But they're downstream of beliefs.

If your funnel isn't converting, don't just tweak the copy or test new ad creative.

Ask: "What beliefs am I installing? And are they making my solution feel like the obvious choice?"

That's the difference between a funnel that struggles at 1-2% conversion and one that converts at 10-15%.

And that's the difference between being stuck at $30k/month and breaking through to $50k, $75k, $100k+.
